If you’ve been dreaming of a Big Island wedding spot that feels both intimate and beautiful, Kikaua Point Park might be exactly what you’re looking for. Located north of Kailua-Kona within the Kukio Resort area, this small oceanfront park is known for its protected white-sand cove, coconut palms, and dramatic lava rock peninsula—all of which create a naturally stunning backdrop for elopements and intimate weddings.

The calm waters, soft golden light, and peaceful atmosphere make this location feel like your own private slice of Hawaii. But because it’s so special, it comes with a few important guidelines you’ll want to know before booking.

🌺 1. If You Want It—Book Early

Only two weddings per day are allowed at Kikaua Point Park:

  • One morning ceremony

  • One evening ceremony

Because availability is so limited, dates often book far in advance—sometimes a year or more.

👥 2. Guest Count Is Limited to 20 People

Kikaua Point Park is meant to remain quiet, intimate, and preserved. For that reason, weddings are capped at 20 total people, including:

  • The couple

  • Guests

  • Officiant

  • Photographer & videographer

  • Any additional vendors

For couples planning a small and heartfelt celebration, this setting is ideal.

🌴 3. What Makes This Location So Special

Kikaua Point Park has a magic that’s hard to describe until you’re standing there. Here’s why couples love it:

Protected Cove

The calm, brilliant-blue water makes for gorgeous photos and peaceful ceremonies.

Coconut Palm Grove

The entrance pathway and grove of palms look like something out of a movie.

Lava Rock Peninsula

This natural rock formation creates a breathtaking “altar” overlooking the ocean.

Dream Lighting

Soft morning light and warm sunset glow make every photo look cinematic.

Privacy & Serenity

Because access is monitored through Kukio Security, the park stays quiet and uncrowded.

🪑 4. Chairs, Food, and Arches Are Allowed

A rare plus for Hawaii beach weddings—you have more flexibility here than at most shoreline sites:

  • Guests may sit in chairs during your ceremony

  • You can enjoy light food afterward

  • You can bring wedding cake

  • Arches are allowed at Kikaua Point Park

All items must be carried in and out. Arches must be lightweight, non-staked, and minimal so they don’t disturb the natural environment.

5. Your Permit Lasts Only Two Hours

Your permit includes a two-hour window from start to finish. That includes:

  • Arrival

  • Setup

  • Ceremony

  • Photography

  • Breakdown

Because the time frame is short, you’ll want to choose your ceremony time thoughtfully. Sunrise and sunset ceremonies are especially beautiful and provide the best weather and lighting.

🚗 6. Parking Is Very Limited

Parking is one of the biggest challenges here. Keep this in mind:

  • Carpooling is highly recommended

  • Avoid midday ceremonies

  • Early morning or sunset times work best

  • Kukio Security does NOT reserve parking for weddings

Guests should plan to arrive early and share rides whenever possible.

🚫 7. No Drones and No Tents

To protect wildlife and minimize disruption:

  • Drones are not permitted

  • Tents or canopies are not allowed

Your photographer can still capture amazing scenery without drone shots.

🎶 8. Acoustic Music Only

Music is allowed for your entrance or during the ceremony, but must be:

  • Acoustic only

  • Soft and unobtrusive

Ukulele or acoustic guitar is especially lovely at this location.

📍 Additional Location Tips

  • Bathrooms: A small restroom is available near the parking area.

  • Walking Distance: The ceremony site is a short, flat walk—easy for most guests.

  • Turtles: Honu (Hawaiian sea turtles) are often resting here—enjoy respectfully and keep your distance.

  • Shade: Limited—morning ceremonies are cooler and more comfortable.

  • Tides: The peninsula is typically accessible, but lava rocks can be slick. Your photographer will guide you.
