Best Wedding Times

Many couples begin wedding or elopement planning here on the Big Island with the idea of having a brunch or early dinner right after their ceremony. Couples often want a noon, 1, or 2pm ceremony, but forget that Hawaii is only a little over 1,000 miles to the equator - so it is pretty hot here all year long! I tell all of my couples, "You do not want to spend the next 6 months to 1 year planning your special day, and then when you get here and you're having your ceremony or your photo session in your wedding dress and you're sweating and hot, and all you can think is, 'I cannot wait for this to be over!"

The best times for a beach wedding or elopement here on Big Island are before 10am or the hours right before sunset. This is when the beaches are the least crowded with people and the sun is the least overhead (for excellent photographs and milder conditions).

When planning a wedding with Kona Wedding Officiant, our packages run about 1.5 - 2 hours, so check the sunset time! If the sun sets at 6:30pm, your package will start with us about 5:00pm or 4:30 pm, because we shoot right up until the sun sets over the horizon to ensure we capture those incredible Hawaii skies.

When planning a morning wedding, we recommend starting about 8 or 9am and being finished no later than 10:30 when the beaches begin to get very hot and crowded. This way, you can be married and enjoy your wedding day (sunburn free!)!
