Want to stare into the Pacific while you sip a cocktail and snack on a pupu during your stay in Kona? Pull up a chair and grab a drink at Don’s Mai Tai Bar at the Royal Kona Resort on Alii Drive in Kailua Kona town. Few bars or restaurants on the strip offer such killer views as this bar, sitting tables so wonderfully close to the sea that at the right seat, the only thing between you and sweeping ocean views will be the tile seawall. Come during winter months and catch incredible swells just out to sea, some so big they may splash into your cocktail! Come at night and enjoy music, company from locals and tourists alike, or peeks of majestic luaus across the way showcasing incredible talent, fire dancing, and rich Hawaiian history.

Some of the best features of Don’s Mai Tai Bar are indeed the views alone. However, the bar does not fall short in sustenance. Enjoy $6 Mai Tais during the bar’s Happy Hour from 4pm - 6pm, in addition to discounted beers, well liquors, and pupus. My favorite dish from this bar is the BBQ Kailua Pork Sliders, served on toasted coconut rolls with achiote butter spread topped with kalua pork, pineapple coleslaw and a hint of li hing mui - yum! Although they are not discounted for Happy Hour, they are worth every cent (get the "three!").
Thursdays from 5pm -7pm, Don’s hosts a variety of fun entertainment for visitors of the bar. Check the Royal Kona Resort Events link here for updates to the Hawaiian Music Concert Series.
