Although this is a white sand beach, it falls under our Black Sand Beach Hawaii locations due to its off the beaten path and rugged access. Mahai`ula Beach is the most lovely white sand beach on Hawaii. This beach requires a 4wd vehicle to access the beach down a 20-30 minute rough road from the state highway. After reaching the parking area, a.5 mile hike to the beach is required. Unlike other locations, couples must apply to Hawaii State 45 days before their weddings to use this location. Don't stress, we assist with this simple process as part of your planning process.
A Makalawena beach wedding is ideal for couples who want a quiet, scenic spot far from crowded shores. Mahaiʻula Beach sits next to Makalawena and offers bright white sand, clear water, and a rugged, peaceful setting. Access involves a 4WD drive and a short hike, but the views make the effort worthwhile. Couples planning to marry here must also apply for a Hawaii State permit, and we help with every step of the process.
